Notable releases and improvements. Launch-week fixes are noted here as they ship.
September 2026
Player report is now Analyze player
The tab is named for what you do with it, not for the document it hands back.
- Player report is called Analyze player, in the sidebar, the tab strip and the workspace presets.
- Right-click a game in search and either player now offers Analyze them.
- Existing tabs rename themselves, so a layout you saved months ago says the same thing as a new one.
September 2026
The Library is a tab of its own
Your databases have a page now: the list on the left, and the games of whichever one you pick on the right.
- Home and Library sit first in the tab strip, with their names, and cannot be closed.
- Pick a database and its games appear beside it, newest first. Search this database carries it into Game search as the source.
- The pop-up library window is gone. The sidebar row, the shortcut, the Home card and a finished import all open the tab.
- Settings → Database has Export all games as PGN, so your whole library leaves as one file any chess program can open.
- A new page, Your data, linked from the site footer, says where your games live, who can read them, and how they leave.
- In a repertoire, the position panel says how rare a position is in master games, and when it is rare enough to stop extending the line. Games from here opens the games that reached it.

One rail on the right, and results that fit
Game view folds its right-hand windows into one Siderail, and Game search stops showing the same game twice.
- The right column of Game view is one Siderail. Its rows are Game search, Opening explorer, Game review and Pallas. Click a row to open it, and every open row takes an equal share of the column.
- Drag a row to reorder it, drag it off the Siderail for a window of its own, or drag any window onto the Siderail to fold it in.
- Search results show each player's Elo by default, and the table fills the width it has instead of leaving a blank third of every row.
- A game the database held twice under two spellings of its event now shows once, and a head-to-head record counts games, not copies.
- The Advanced search chips read like chess, with proper nouns kept, and the ones almost nobody searched by stay out of the way until a typed query turns one on.
- A player report now has a career profile for players from before ratings existed, so Capablanca, Lasker and Fischer have one.
September 2026
Suggestions worth clicking, and a board you can hear
The database ideas on Home stop repeating themselves, and stepping through a game now sounds each move.
- The suggested searches on Home and in Game search no longer carry a rating floor, and no two suggestions name the same opening, structure, ending or player.
- Stepping through a game with the arrow keys, the notation or the ribbon now plays the move sound, forwards and back. Board settings has a new choice: Every move, or only the moves you play.
- Download PGN names the file after the players and the date again, instead of a blank.
- Copy PGN says whether it copied.
- In a repertoire, every line in the tree leads with its first move, and the rest of the run sits after the opening name.
September 2026
Search shows which term is still waiting
Add a term to a search you have already run and the band now says what has changed and what to do.
- A term you add or change after a search draws with a dashed edge until you run it. The games below are still your last search, so they stay a little faded.
- The Search button reads "Search again" while a change is waiting. The small amber "not applied yet" beside it is gone.
September 2026
Game search, less in the way
Removing a filter now removes it, and the things that used to sit over your results are gone.
- Click × on a filter and it goes. The crossed-out value with an undo link is no longer there.
- The banner that floated over the games while you edited a search is gone. The amber "not applied yet" beside Search already says that.
- The rating floor is an ordinary filter. Its × searches every rating for that search, and the choice sticks while you keep editing. Your default floor still lives in Settings.
- The × inside the search box clears what you typed and nothing else. Starting over is the arrow at the left of the bar.
- The folded search line no longer reads 0 games while a search is still running, and the key-hint lines under the menus are gone.
September 2026
Game search gets out of the way
Once a search has run, the search bar folds to one line so the games get the room.
- After you search, the filters fold to a single line that reads back what you asked for, with the game count beside it.
- Click that line, or just start typing, and the full search bar comes back with your cursor in it.
- It never folds over an edit you have not run yet.
- Prefer it always open? Settings has a switch for that.
September 2026
Popularity, in one number
The opening explorer's Popularity column now answers the question people actually asked it: is this move played more or less than it used to be?
- The year-by-year line is gone. Each move shows how much more, or less, of the position goes that way — the number that used to sit beside the line.
- The comparison is against 10 years ago, not 20. A decade is a baseline you can remember playing through.
- The column is narrower, so the move table fits more comfortably beside the board.
- Moves with too few dated games still say so rather than printing a figure they cannot support.
September 2026
Leakfinder keeps working while you look away
A scan you left running in another tab or behind another window used to crawl and then give up; now it finishes.
- Switching tabs or windows during a Leakfinder scan or a player report no longer slows the work down or trips the time limit.
- When a scan does run out of time, the message says which step stalled, so a library that loaded fine is never blamed for a slow engine.
- A library scan now looks for every name you have saved, not only the one in the box, so games imported under your online handle are found.
- While the games are being analysed the loader shows how many it is working through.
September 2026
A shorter sidebar
Two rows almost nobody used are gone, so the ones you do use are easier to find.
- The Custom layout row is gone. Every blank canvas it made in three weeks was left empty, so the sidebar now lists only the workspaces that do something.
- The Coming soon row is gone. Anything worth announcing ahead of time will appear here in What’s new instead.
- Your existing tabs and layouts are untouched.
September 2026
Scout is now the player report
Same feature, better name — you were never only pointing it at people you were about to play.
- Scout is called Player report now — in the sidebar, on the phone tab bar, and everywhere else it gets named
- The wording around it dropped the assumption that you have a pairing, so looking up a player you are simply curious about, or yourself, no longer reads as prep for a game you are not playing
- Right-click a game in search and either player offers "Report on" them
- A workspace tab you already had renames itself, so nothing you saved needs rebuilding
September 2026
The book, an opponent, and you
The Opening explorer can now set one player's moves, and your own, beside what the database plays from the position on your board.
- New: Compare, at the end of the explorer's top row — add a player by name, or add yourself
- Your column reads the games of whichever of your accounts you pick: Lichess, Chess.com, or your over-the-board name, one at a time
- Every column shows games and a win, draw, loss split from that person's side, with the numbers written on the bar
- Each choice is a pill with a short menu — the Elo profile, a player's side, your account — so the panel stays one row of pills and a table
- A move someone has played that the book does not list gets its own row, and the columns keep answering past the end of the book
- Click a count to open those games in Game search
- Games and Played are one column now — the share sits under the count
September 2026
A quieter workbench
A run of small changes to how the app looks and behaves, most of them the kind you only notice when they are wrong.
- The sidebar, the tab strip and every pick-one control now share one look, so the current section reads the same way everywhere
- Home names the week's novelties that land in your own lines, with a rating floor you set
- Right-click a move in the notation to add its line to any repertoire
- The board's coordinate border is back, in every board colour
- A piece dropped on a square it cannot reach goes home, rather than sticking where it landed
- A game review starts when you ask for one
- Wherever the app asks you to sign in, it also offers to create an account
September 2026
The Discord is open
There is now a place to ask a question, say what's missing, or show a position, with Andrew there daily.
- New: a Discord button at the bottom of the sidebar — it opens the invite in a new tab
- Send feedback points ideas and questions at the Discord, where the answer is fastest; bugs still go by email
- What's new and Coming soon now show in the collapsed sidebar too, instead of disappearing with it
September 2026
Who was strongest, by the games on record
Statistics now ranks the players in the games we hold, year by year, in classical, rapid and blitz.
- New: Players opens Statistics with Strongest on record — the top 100 for any year back to 1970, ranked by their median rating that year in the games we hold
- The style leaderboard has its own tab, Style, so each page keeps its own controls
- Click a player on the list for how they got there — their latest rating, the year-by-year curve with its milestones, and eight core stats
- Flip the time control chip and the list follows: classical, rapid or blitz
- Filter by federation, or switch to Biggest risers to see who moved most on the year before
- A player's report now says where they stand on that list, next to their bio
- The Statistics button stays in the sidebar — it was vanishing after the page loaded
August 30, 2026
A home page of your own chess, and a rebuilt player report
You now land on a page built out of your own week, and looking a player up opens a proper report instead of a workspace you had to assemble.
- Home opens on your week — your recent online games, the lines due for review, a game worth looking at, and a way into the database
- The player report is one report now: type a name and the file opens, with the board beside every page of it
- A report draws the player's rating over time, so a career reads at a glance
- Player reports are free — they stopped being a Pro feature, and a couple of other free limits went with it
- Setting up asks what you play and who you follow, and Home and the player report use the answers straight away
- Game search browses the newest games as soon as you open it, and holds your changes until you hit Search
August 22, 2026
One price for Pro
Pro has one price, monthly or yearly, with no crossed-out higher number beside it. Founding members keep the price they join at for two years.
- The pricing page shows one price — monthly, or yearly if you'd rather pay once
- The crossed-out higher price is gone — nobody was ever charged it, so it had no business on the page
- Founding membership is what it was: the price you join at, held for two years, with the badge to show for it
- Nothing changes for anyone already subscribed

Head to head, and searches that keep what you asked for
Two players and every game between them is now something you can dig into, alongside a run of fixes for searches that were quietly answering a different question than the one you typed.
- Head to head in Stats is a panel you can work with — the record, the openings the two have contested, the structures and endings their games reach, and a year-by-year line showing who was ahead when
- Every rated row opens the games behind it, so a percentage is one click from the games that made it, and the openings list says how much of the pairing it is showing you
- The player picker suggests opponents who have actually met, and the period filter now narrows a pairing the way it narrows the rest of Stats
- Searching a position with only a few pieces set used to miss most of the archive. It now covers all of it, opens on the most recent games, and the count is the real total.
- Running the same search a second time keeps the player you named, instead of widening to everybody's games
- Building a repertoire from your own games no longer freezes the tab or gives up part way through saving, creating one is a single click, and deleting a move now tells you how many moves go with it
August 20, 2026
One Build screen, and your own review pace
Build was showing one of two different screens at the same position depending on how you got there, and only one of them could delete a move. There's one screen now, and how often your lines come back for review is something you set.
- Build is one screen now, whatever position you're on, with the moves you can play here sitting above your lines
- You can delete a first move from the start position, which the old start screen gave you no way to do
- Settings now takes how likely you want to be to remember a line when it comes back, anywhere from 80 to 95 percent, and higher brings positions back sooner
- There's a cap on how far ahead a line can be pushed even when you know it cold, set to a year, because opening theory moves
August 15, 2026
Search by your own username
Typing your chess.com or Lichess username into the search box used to come back "not understood" — the one thing almost everybody tries first. It now finds your account and searches your games, on its own or alongside any filter.
- Type your chess.com or Lichess username and your games come up — you can also pick the account from the suggestions, and it stays in the box as a pill so you can see whose games you are looking at
- Your username works with everything else: "as black in the french", "wins", or a middlegame theme like minority attack, pawn storm or king march all narrow your own games now, not just the public archive
- An account lookup starts showing results while the rest of the history is still arriving, instead of making you wait for all of it
- Looking up an account no longer pulls part of it — the whole span of games comes across, and the search says which period it covered
- A position now opens on its most recent games rather than its oldest, you can page past the first screen of them, and the panel says how big a sample you are looking at
- Searching a second player clears the first player's results straight away, so the two can never be read as one set
August 9, 2026
Your work stays put, and the coach knows what's on the board
A round of fixes to the things that were quietly getting in the way — moves you played by hand surviving a reload, Pallas reading the game you have open, and a search that claimed nothing matched when it had thousands.
- Moves you play by hand on a board you never titled, and the annotations you write on them, now survive a reload instead of being cleared
- Pallas no longer insists no game is loaded when you're sitting at the start of one you just opened — it knows the game is there, and names the move you asked about so one click takes you to it
- The coach stays where you put it: it minimises when you leave a board, and it no longer sits behind Settings, Library or the command palette
- Paging past the first 100 thematic results on the free plan now explains the limit instead of saying no games matched
- Every column in the search results resizes the same way, Match included, and none of them cut text off before their own edge
- The repertoire gaps table stays readable in a narrowly docked panel, and the engine's Depth and Eval headers no longer run into the column beside them
August 9, 2026
Saying plainly how your library is stored
Help and Privacy described your library's backup as something you could switch off. There was never such a setting, and both pages now say what actually happens.
- Your library is held in your browser, which is what makes opening a game instant
- Once your email address is verified it also backs up to your account automatically, and that backup cannot be switched off
- Nothing is uploaded while you're signed out, before your email is verified, or for a collection over your plan's cloud limit — the Library marks those "This device only"
- Every collection still exports to PGN, and the whole library backs up in one click, any time
August 2, 2026
Report on a whole tournament field, and traps you can actually spring
The player report now preps an entire roster at once and names the traps in a player's openings, and importing a PGN into your repertoire finally merges into the lines you already have.
- Report on a tournament field — paste a roster or a tournament link and get every player ranked by how much prep they're worth, with rows that open in place
- Traps and miniatures — the report flags the short wins hiding in a player's openings, says whether each trap is actually sound, and seeds you an antidote
- The player report finds a player's other accounts for you, works from a deeper sample with longer history windows, and every opening row deep-links to the line its games share
- Repertoire imports merge by position — a PGN now joins the lines you already have instead of splintering your tree, and you can finally delete a line you no longer play
- Drill from wherever you're looking — a "Drill from here" button sits at every position, and your drill session and Leakfinder scope survive switching tabs
- Review stops flagging the obvious — decision points skip moves like an automatic recapture, and each moment now shows how deeply it was checked
July 21, 2026
A rebuilt Repertoire, side by side with practice
Repertoire now pairs a build view with a live practice drill on one board, coverage reflects what opponents actually play, and the whole app picks up a calmer navy look.
- Build and practice at once — the Repertoire tab runs a build rail and a practice rail side by side on a single board, so you can drill a line the moment you add it
- Coverage that reflects reality — a line's coverage is now weighted by what opponents actually play, so the gaps it flags are the ones you'll really face
- A plainer practice loop with spatial drills and clearer line labels, and win-rate now leads each candidate move with the engine number demoted beneath it
- Make a move straight from the coach — the moves Pallas names in its answers and review narrations are clickable, and live status lines show what the coach is working through
- Master-grade Leakfinder drills — each leak plays out as a full multi-move line with its refutation, topped up from a rated puzzle library
- A calmer default look — a navy (Cobalt) dark theme is now the base, with a single chess-native icon set throughout; the old dark grey is a one-tap preset
July 17, 2026
A search bar that types like a sentence
Game Search now turns what you type into chips as you go, and a long-standing stability bug that could freeze the app is gone.
- Type naturally in Game Search — a comma or a space commits the chip for you, filler words like "games with" are absorbed, and backspace turns the last chip back into text to edit
- Refine without losing your place — half-typed text survives a refine, and every term the autocomplete offers you is now guaranteed to match something
- Fixed: the app could freeze while your cloud collections synced in the background
- Tablets and short screens now get the full workstation, including a proper Game Search pane and a single, uncluttered nav
July 13, 2026
A rebuilt game review, faster search, and deeper opponent prep
Review now finds the moments that actually decided the game, Game Search is far quicker, and the player report prepares opponents along your own repertoire lines.
- Rebuilt game review — rather than a note on every move, review finds the handful of moments that decided the game and checks each one deeply, with tablebase confirmation in the endgame
- Review results lead with a plain-English headline and labeled accuracy bars, can be narrated on demand in the Pallas coach's voice, and can be committed into the game as ChessBase-style symbols
- Faster, friendlier Game Search — build a query from editable chips instead of guessing syntax, refine without starting over, and sort any column across the whole result set
- Search by structure and phase — find named pawn structures like the isolated queen's pawn or Carlsbad, scope a theme to one side, and narrow to the phase it appears in
- Deeper player-report prep — an opponent's replies overlay your repertoire lines, with the games where they lost in them and an Elo-expected par for each gap
- Sharper Leakfinder — a deeper master-level scan, tablebase-backed endgame checks, and a Trends tab tracking whether the leaks you drilled are closing
- A rebuilt phone experience — a four-tab shell (Search · Board · Player · Coach) with an eval gauge, compact engine lines, and a Drill tab for prep on the go
July 3, 2026
A coach on every tab and a cleaner board
Pallas now floats alongside you wherever you work, and the notation, evaluation graph, and top bar all got a polish pass.
- Pallas floating dock — the coach rides a corner dock that stays with you on every tab, not just the analysis view; ask a question without it blocking the board, and resize or minimize it to taste
- The coach greets you with a fresh line each session, and a follow-up about the same position moves the idea forward instead of restating it
- Redesigned notation — a solid tile marks the current move with a matching index gutter, sub-variations sit on a clean indented rail, and the move list no longer tints blue in dark mode
- Evaluation panel — a Graph / Review toggle switches between the advantage curve and the move-by-move review, and Interesting (!?) moves are recolored to read as distinct from Brilliant
- Appearance controls — a "Panel borders" toggle turns off container outlines for a flatter look, and panels pick up subtle elevation with a per-theme board border
- Sharper top bar and Game Search — a trimmer bar with hover-reveal tab closes, a results settings cog, results that adapt as you resize the panel, and a much faster common-theme scan
July 2, 2026
A live status bar and novelty spotting
Keep an eye on engine and sync from a new status bar, and see when a move was a genuine theoretical novelty when it was played.
- Live status bar — a persistent bottom bar shows engine state, cloud sync, and game-review progress, so you always know what the app is doing
- Genuine novelty (TN) indicator — the eval graph and notation mark where a game left known theory, scoped to novelties at 2300+ at the time the game was played
- Faster position search — matching the board against the game database is dramatically quicker on popular openings, and an en-passant case that silently missed matches is fixed
- Leakfinder — "Where you leak" now shows what each mistake actually costs you, so you can see which ones lose you ground
- Library — public collections credit their creator and can carry a description, and the command palette gains "Switch to…" for jumping between workspaces
- Freeform panels — maximize a panel to fill the stage or collapse it to its header; Game Search defaults to most-recent games first
June 30, 2026
Richer player reports, clock-aware Leakfinder, deeper Repertoire
The player report now profiles playing style and pawn structures, Leakfinder tracks where your clock drains by move phase, and Repertoire builds trees from real tournament practice.
- Player report — a new "Style & tendencies" card summarises castling side, sharpness, and endgame frequency, and a "Predictable as Black" verdict flags opponents whose Black repertoire is narrow enough to prepare for
- Player report pawn structure cards expand to cover symmetrical, closed-centre, and space-control patterns
- Leakfinder — clock data from your online games is bucketed by phase (moves 1–10, 11–20, 21–30, 31+), so time-trouble collapses are tied to where your clock actually drains
- Repertoire — candidate moves now come from the database of 10.4M tournament games, with opening names, transposition markers, and coverage tooltips in the tree
- Pallas coach — only flags a tempting move when it can show the refutation, and no longer points out defended pieces as if they were free
- Game Search — filter pills carry category prefixes (colour, theme, opening) for instant scanning, and the exchange-sac filter is live
June 29, 2026
Public collections, smarter coach, player report polish
Share game collections publicly, build a repertoire from any player's games, and get a sharper Pallas coach.
- Public collections — toggle any Library collection to Public so others can browse and fork it; browse collections the community has shared from the Library tab
- Build a repertoire from a player's games — pick any player in your database and Repertoire distils their most-played lines into a drillable tree
- Smarter Pallas coach — deeper strategic assessment, more accurate attack and threat reading, and tighter self-checking so the coach only says things it can stand behind
- Player report layout polish — controls move to the left column so the board rises above the fold on wide screens; a colour filter lets you scope the report to just your White or Black games
- "Only my games" import filter is now opt-in per import — it previously applied globally and could hide games you meant to see
- Game Search "Try" examples always return real results, and the player game total next to search results now reflects the full database count
June 23, 2026
A sharper coach, easier search
The Pallas coach gets more trustworthy and more natural, and Game Search gets faster to drive.
- Pallas now narrates only verified facts — every claim is checked against the real position and the moves actually played, and a wrong premise gets corrected rather than ignored
- A more natural coaching voice — cleaner, less templated answers that look ahead at likely replies and recommend the most practical choice among equal engine lines
- Game Search is easier to drive — a unified results toolbar, smarter "did you mean" typo correction, and broader opening and player-name recognition
- Search by endgame type — rook, pawn, queen, knight, opposite-coloured-bishop and a dozen more. "Rook endgame" means a true rook-and-pawn ending, and a game matches every ending it passes through
- The player report prepares opponents consistently across your database, online accounts, and PGN, with recommendations you can steer using your own moves
- More reliable engine and cloud sync — lighter memory use with auto-recovery, settings that persist, and no more duplicate collections on upload
- Edit lines faster — delete any move with a right-click, and read sub-variations inline in the notation
June 16, 2026
Search from the board, and clearer guidance
Send any board position straight to the database, with friendlier in-app help on the deeper tools.

- New dismissable tips on the more advanced panels (Player report, Repertoire, and more) — what each does and how to drive it
- Ask the Pallas AI coach a free question from your very first session
